New Reduced‐Order Lithium‐Ion Battery Model to Account for the Local Fluctuations in the Porous Electrodes

Numerical simulations of microscopic transport processes in porous electrodes lithium-ion batteries demonstrate the presence spatially localized fluctuations physical quantities on microstructure scale. They can influence macroscopic battery characteristics (for example, degradation rates). These cannot be captured a straightforward manner by widely used electrode theory Doyle, Fuller, and Newman (DFN model). The latter treats as macroscopically homogeneous composite materials; it reduces computational costs numerical simulations.
